Cyprus plans to double its public sports funding to €700,000 to prepare athletes for the Summer Olympic Tickets, Leader Nikos Christodoulides said. The plan includes establishing a National Sports Body, improving training venues, balancing disability benefits, and boosting post-career support for players, while noting forty years of shared sports ties between Cyprus and Greece.
Funding Rises Sharply From 350000 Euros Set for Paris 2024 Cycles
President Nikos Christodoulides declared a large cash boost for the island nation, sharing plans to double state backing for national athletes. Cyprus is set to give 700,000 euros directly toward player preparation over the coming years. This strong choice aims to give Cypriot players the best possible training options as they gear up for the upcoming LA 28 event.

The newly declared sum shows a clear rise compared to past sports budgets. For the Paris 2024 quadrennial, the state had offered 350,000 euros for national preparation efforts. Starting from January 1, 2027, the doubled funding will be administered and provided via the Cyprus Sports Organisation, ensuring direct assistance for elite players heading into the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.
Christodoulides noted that the huge 700,000-euro sum is already set in place. The Cabinet has officially reviewed and passed the first draft of the upcoming state budget having this key line item. Getting these funds early gives sports leaders enough time to plan top-class training programs for every player aiming to enter the prestigious Summer Games tournament.
Cabinet Officially Approves State Budget Draft for 2027 Funding Plan
This big update happened during a top-level event held at the Presidential Palace. The main event was set up to mark four decades of good sports cooperation between Cyprus and nearby Greece. State leaders and sports reps met together to honor past wins while looking ahead to a brighter, stronger future on the global Olympic stage.

The Leader stressed that backing top-level sports stars remains a core part of his administration. By giving more resources, the state aims to help Cypriot athletes to reach peak physical health. Stronger financial support lets players focus fully on their work, helping them gain speed long before they travel to play in the highly anticipated Olympic 2028 competition.
Past direct cash grants, Christodoulides set out several new plans made to support athletes across their careers. The state is updating its work training plan to help Olympic and Paralympic players move into new jobs after retirement. This full support system works for all national team players no matter their final career spots or medal counts at the Summer Olympic edition.
Cyprus Forms New National Sports Council for Future Olympic Plans
Base growth forms another key part of the state plan to raise national sports work. Plans are already moving ahead to improve current training centers and build new sports facilities across the country. Plus, the state aims to make perks equal for players with disabilities, while adding firm safety rules to stop violence at major Summer Games 2028 qualifying events.

Next to these financial and structural goals, the Cabinet passed a key operational decision earlier that day. Leaders officially voted to form a brand-new National Sports Council to lead national development. This focused group will bring top skill and modern science knowhow directly into the making of future sports plans ahead of the upcoming Los Angeles Olympic showcase.
A main task given to the new National Sports Council includes making a clear setup plan. The council will develop a full plan to build a focused Deputy Ministry of Sports, an office Cyprus now lacks. This step aims to ease daily work, bringing better long-term management and clear financial paths for elite players preparing for future sports cycles.
New Sports Council to Push for a Dedicated Deputy Ministry of Sports
By changing the managerial setup, the state plans to improve how the whole sports sector runs. The new council will closely review top management approaches to determine how public duties should be set at the top level. This full update will make a strong base for young stars who want to represent their homeland on the global stage. Read more about Summer Olympic Tickets.
The timing of these big updates holds real state and cultural weight for both sides. Cyprus and Greece are now marking forty years of continuous work in sports growth. Their official link started back in 1986, when both sides signed a starting deal made to rebuild and boost sports chances for youth after hard historical times.
Christodoulides kindly remembered that the first joint deal was set during a very hard time. After the painful events of 1974, Cyprus faced hard money troubles that cut public funds. The initial sports deal offered key help, helping local stars stay active, use the right venues, and keep good playing levels through ongoing work with skilled Greek athletic groups.
Cyprus and Greece Celebrate Forty Years of Sports Cooperation Ties
That past setup is now being turned into an updated Sports Cooperation Protocol for the future. The renewed deal will set a stronger official base, building deeper work in sports science, coaching methods, and shared practice camps. This stronger link ensures that both sides can jointly raise their sports rank as they prepare for top-level global games.
Ending his speech, the Leader shared deep thanks to Greece for decades of firm help. He commended Cypriot and Greek players for their hard work, control, and fine play in global arenas. Their lasting push for glory keeps inspiring coming ages while keeping the core human values and peaceful goals usually tied to the historic international movement.
